A padded laptop sleeve is a separate lined pocket against the back panel, and the number on the card is the largest screen diagonal it was cut for. The spread here is narrow on purpose: 15 inches on the two galaxy bags and the classic laptop bookbag, 15.3 on the basic school bookbag and the kawaii kids' bag, 15.6 on the classic travel backpack, the teen laptop backpack, the clear campus backpack and the teen girls' set, and a single 17-inch sleeve in the lightweight daypack. That last one is the only bag on the site that takes a seventeen.

Two things go wrong when people buy by the number. The first is a case: a laptop in a hard shell is a centimetre wider than the same laptop bare, and a 15.6-inch sleeve holds a 15.6-inch laptop and not a 15.6-inch laptop in armour. The second is the assumption that a sleeve is protection. It is padding against a back panel, which stops a pencil case being felt through the machine and nothing more; a bag dropped on a corner puts that shock into the laptop whatever the sleeve is made of. If the machine matters, the sleeve is where it rides, not what it is insured by.

Does the abshoo laptop sleeve size mean your screen or the whole machine?

The screen, measured corner to corner, which is how laptops are sold. A 15.6-inch sleeve is cut for a 15.6-inch machine plus a small allowance, and that allowance is what a slim sleeve case eats. If your laptop lives in a hard shell, measure the shell rather than trusting the model name.

Which abshoo backpack should you buy for a 17-inch laptop?

One: the lightweight daypack. Everything else on this page stops at 15.6 inches. If the machine is a seventeen, that is the bag, and it is worth saying that a seventeen-inch laptop in any backpack sits close to the full width of the back panel, so there is not much room left beside it.

Will every abshoo school bag take your laptop?

No, and the card is the place that says so. Roughly a quarter of the range names a sleeve size; the preschool and kindergarten packs have none, and neither do most of the small clear bags. A bag with no size printed on its card has no sleeve, not a sleeve we forgot to measure.
