The strap itself is unremarkable and that is the point: a band of the same polyester as the bag, stitched top and bottom across the back panel, wide enough to swallow the telescopic handle of a carry-on. It costs almost nothing to add and it is missing from most bags at this price. What it changes is the walk from the taxi to the gate, where the alternative is a bag on one shoulder for twenty minutes.

The litre figures on this page run 21, 22, 27, 32 and 34, and the useful comparison is not between them but against the cabin rule you are flying under. At 18 by 13.5 by 8 inches the 34-litre travel backpack is the largest thing abshoo makes and it is at the upper end of what most airlines take as a personal item; the 22-litre heavy-duty campus bag at 17.7 by 12.2 by 6.2 inches goes under a seat without an argument. Every bag here except two names a laptop sleeve as well, which is the other reason this group is the one people take away for a weekend.

Questions about abshoo Travel Backpacks

The sleeve that goes over a suitcase handle

What is the luggage strap on your abshoo backpack for?

Sliding the bag over the extended handle of a wheeled suitcase so the two travel as one. The bag sits against the back of the case, held by the sleeve, and the whole lot rolls. It is not a place to thread a belt or a bike lock, and it is not a carry handle.

Will your abshoo travel backpack fit under an airline seat?

The smaller ones will. The 22-litre heavy-duty campus bag measures 17.7 by 12.2 by 6.2 inches, which clears the under-seat allowance of most carriers when it is not overstuffed. The 34-litre bag at 18 by 13.5 by 8 inches is a different proposition: it is a cabin bag rather than an under-seat one, and the airline you are flying with sets the number that counts.

Is the 34-litre abshoo backpack too big for your child's school day?

For most children, yes, and that is worth saying out loud. Thirty-four litres of textbooks is far past what a teenager should be carrying, and a bigger bag gets filled. It is a travel bag that also survives a term; if the buyer is fourteen and walks to school, the 22 or 24-litre bags are the honest answer.
